WHAT IS
HUMAN TRAFFICKING?
KNOW
THE FACTS
-
Human Trafficking is where a person profits from exploiting someone for their work (labor trafficking) or commercial sex (sex trafficking) through the means of force, fraud, or coercion.
-
According to the state and federal law, any minor who performs a commercial sex act is defined as a victim of sex trafficking, regardless of the use of force, fraud, or coercion. There is NO such thing as a child prostitute.
-
Because of the media's influence, many believe that human trafficking only occurs in foreign countries, specifically third world countries. However, majority of the victims identified in the US are US citizens.
-
Human Trafficking does NOT discriminate. It affects every community in the United States across age, gender, ethnicity, and socio-economic backgrounds. Human trafficking is just as prevalent in the rural areas, suburbs and small towns as it is in urban areas.
